Overlooked destinations around Southeast Asia

Sometimes, it’s good to get out of your usual spots and do some exploring way outside your comfort zone: what better place to do that than in Asia, more specifically, Southeast Asia.

You’ll never be short on things to do and see in Southeast Asia. It’s only a matter of figuring out what you want to do and where you should go.

To give you a better idea, here’s a quick list of places to see in Southeast Asia:

Ha Giang Loop, Vietnam

Hanoi, the country’s capital, is buzzing with life. People are everywhere, and it’s a bustling city on its own. However, you left your town to get away from the noise and the busy streets; that is why we recommend you visit Ha Giang Loop, the northernmost province in the country.

It’s commonly referred to as “the last frontier for adventurous travellers in Vietnam”.  And it offers you the peace only the countryside can provide.

Ha Giang is best known for its conical peaks, extreme cliffs, and valleys often hidden by clouds. The residents of the area are from ethnic minority groups. They allow you to meet and learn about their way of life.

To get to the province, you will need to take a seven to eight-hour bus ride from Hanoi, and there are local hostels in the area where you can stay after a day of travelling and exploring.

Baliem Valley, Indonesia

Indonesia’s Baliem Valley is another place to go if you’re looking to spend time away from the modern world.

Baliem Valley, located in West Papua, Indonesia, is home to the Dani tribes. Their way of life has hardly changed over the past few years.

Visitors can enter. But it is highly recommended to go with a tour group to ensure safety. The guides can help you get to the villages, where you can see how different they live their lives compared to yours.

Mt. Kyaiktiyo, Myanmar

Mt Kyaiktiyo is one of the three most religious sites in Myanmar. The Mountainside is most famous for gold granite boulder which you can find perched on the summit. Legend has it that Buddha is supporting this rock with a hair, thus preventing it from plummeting more than a thousand meters below.

To get to the summit, the most popular way is to hop on to a pickup truck from Kinpun, go through the mountain roads together with several other people onboard and make friends along the way, literally.

Pulau Besar, Malaysia

Pulau Besar in Malaysia is a great place to go for those who want to use their holiday to relax.

Here on the island, most, if not all, the accommodations are right by the beach, giving you a great view each morning. What’s more, they offer a variety of activities for you to try including kayaking, snorkelling, and even hiking.

It’s a great way to recharge and remind yourself that life is so much more than just showing up to your job every day and collecting a paycheck.

You will arrive in Southeast Asia looking to learn and experience the culture, and leaving it with a head brimming with everything you have learned.

Now, before you leave for your Asian adventure, don’t forget to pack according to the weather of your destination, and of course, book an airport parking space for your vehicle with Alpha Airport Parking to make sure that you have a ride for when you get back from vacation.
